Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency has obliged the country’s DTH stations to distribute 14 regional networks, with a total of 514 signals, in the clear.

Already the DTH station have to offer 60% of their output to local production and this new ruling will affect MTV Networks are Brazil Mix TV, Cançao Nova, radio and TV Aparecida, Globo, Band, CNT, Record, Rede Mulher, SBT, Rede Brasil, Rede Televisão International, Life and Rede Rede TV!.

However analysts are warning that fulfilling this local requirement represents a logistical nightmare due to the need to accommodate the regionalisation of the different channels. It is also though that the evangelical networks which play a big part in Brazil’s DTH mix stand to benefit most.
